Place the two conversion files in the Conversions Folder in your WordPerfect folder. The next time you launch WordPerfect these conversions will be available.
Introduction
The WP 6.0 import and export emphasize “round trip” capability. In other words, the formatting of your document will be preserved if you create a WP 6.0 document, convert it to WP 3.0, then convert it back to WP 6.0. When importing WP 6.0 documents, functions that are not supported in WP 3.0 will usually be preserved in a “WP 6.0 Format” code. These codes can be seen by using the Show Codes” feature. Functions that are preserved this way are inactive in WP 3.0 but will be restored if the document is saved in WP 6.0 format again. To prevent confusion, “WP 6.0 Format” codes cannot be copied or pasted in WPMac 3.0. However, they can be deleted. Functions in WP 3.0 that are not supported in WP 6.0 will be preserved and restored in the same way. These functions will appear in WP 6.0 as “unknown” codes in the reveal codes window.
Some WP 6.0 features that are partially supported in WP 3.0 will be both displayed and hidden. The idea here is that we will display as much as we can in WP 3.0; then when the file is saved in WP 6.0 again, the full functionality will be restored. If you edit the feature in WP 3.0, your editing changes will take precedence and the hidden functionality will be deleted.
Round Trip Hints
If you plan to edit a document in both WP 3.0 and WP 6.0, the following ideas should help round trip fidelity:
•Save the document in WP 6.0 format on both the Macintosh and your PC. If you save it in WP 3.0 format and read directly into WP 6.0, the hidden features will be lost.
•If you use features that are not supported on both platforms, only edit those features on the side where they began.
•Use character styles in WP 6.0, rather than paragraph or open styles. Try to apply them on paragraph boundaries. Only apply one style at a time.
•Try to use fonts with the same name on both platforms.
•When creating or editing a document in WP 6.0, don’t use structures that WP 3.0 doesn’t allow. For example, don’t put a table in a header.
Limitations
•Table Columns. WP 6.0 tables with more than 32 columns will have all the columns to the right of the thirty-first column combined.
•Table Math. Those WP 6.0 table math functions and number formats which are unsupported in WP 3.0 will be lost on the round trip.
•Fill Patterns. WP 3.0 has 64 fill patterns. When you export to WP 6.0, the conversion will choose one of the 32 fill patterns available in WP 6.0. The original fill pattern will not be restored.
•Styles. Nested and overlapping WP 6.0 styles will not make the round trip. If character styles that were created in WP 6.0 are applied on the Mac, they will applied to paragraph boundaries.
